The Scientific Advisory Board gives scientific advice to the CeGaT GmbH with regard to international orientation and collaboration projects. Current members of the Board are:
Prof. Dr. Thomas Gasser, MD: He is Director of the Hertie-Institute for Clinical Brain Research in Tuebingen, Germany, Department of Neurodegenerative Diseases, and Clinical Director of the Department of Neurology at the University Clinic, Tuebingen, Germany. As President of the German Society of Neurogenetics and coordinator of the competence center for Parkinson's disease in Germany and coordinator of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in Tuebingen, Germany, Prof. Gasser belongs to the most acknowledged neurogeneticists worldwide.
Prof. Dr. Stephan C. Bischoff, MD: He is Director of the Department of Nutricional Medicine / Prevention and Gender Research, Managing Director of the Institute of Nutritional Medicine, Director of the Competence Centre Gender and Nutrition and as Vice Dean Member of the Faculty Board Natural Sciences of the University of Hohenheim. Furthermore, Prof. Bischoff is the initiator and spokesman of the Research Association "Obesity and Gastrointestinal Tract (OGIT)" of the Competence Network "Obesity". Prof. Bischoff belongs to the most recognized specialists in nutritional medicine worldwide.
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Berger, PhD: He is Director of the Institute of Medical Molecular Genetics and holds the Chair of Medical Molecular Genetics & Gene Diagnostics at the University of Zurich. He is advising CeGaT with respect to hereditary eye diseases and coordinates the development of the retina panels. Prof. Berger is very well-known for his research on hereditary eye diseases.
Prof. Dr. Peter Freisinger, MD: He is the Physician-in-Chief of Pediatric Medicine in Reutlingen, Germany. He is specialized in metabolic and mitochondrial disorders, skeletal dysplasias, and neurodevelopmental diseases. Furthermore he has a focus on perinatal medicine in neonatology. Prof. Freisinger will consult CeGaT GmbH with respect to metabolic and mitochondrial diagostics.
Prof. Dr. Sven Perner, MD: He is Director of the Institute of Prostate Cancer Research, University of Bonn. Prof. Perner is focusing on the translational research necessary to identify biomarkers in solid tumors, primarily cancers of the prostate and lung. Prof. Perner is collaborating with CeGaT on tumor genetic projects.
Prof. Dr. Daniel H. Huson: He is Professor for Algorithms in Bioinformatics at the University of Tuebingen and additionally part-time professor at the SCELSE, Nanyang University of Technology in Singapore. The main focus of his lab is on developing new and advanced algorithms for bioinformatics with particular interest in "Phylogenetic trees and networks", "Metagenomic analysis", "Resequencing and genome analysis", miRNAs as well as "Evolution and Ecology". He advises the CeGaT since its foundation especially in analysing metagenome sequencing projects where he has world leading experience.
